Description

1. Product Overview

The IndusKey INK330 is an industrial-grade oil-in-water sensor that utilizes the ultraviolet (UV) fluorescence method for the detection and quantification of dissolved and emulsified petroleum hydrocarbons in aqueous environments. This measurement principle offers superior sensitivity, faster response times, and excellent repeatability compared to conventional infrared scattering or gravimetric methods.
Engineered as a fully digital sensor with RS-485 output and standard MODBUS RTU protocol, the INK330 integrates seamlessly into SCADA systems, PLCs, and distributed control networks. Its titanium alloy construction ensures reliable operation in demanding environments including seawater, produced water, and high-salinity process streams.
Measurement Target: Dissolved and emulsified crude oil, petroleum hydrocarbons, and refined oil products in water matrices. No reagents required; minimal maintenance.

2. Technical Principle

Measurement Technology

The INK330 operates on the principle of UV-induced fluorescence spectroscopy. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) present in petroleum products absorb ultraviolet light at a specific excitation wavelength and emit fluorescence at a longer characteristic wavelength. The intensity of the emitted fluorescence is directly proportional to the concentration of oil in the water sample.

Excitation & Detection

A UV LED source emits excitation light into the measurement window. Fluorescence emitted by oil molecules is detected by a photodiode assembly with optical filtering to isolate the target emission wavelength.

Signal Processing

An onboard microprocessor digitizes the photocurrent signal, applies temperature compensation algorithms, and converts the result to oil concentration (ppm) via the factory-calibrated response curve.

Temperature Compensation

Integrated temperature sensing enables automatic compensation of fluorescence quantum yield variations across the 0–50°C operating range, ensuring measurement stability.

Digital Communication

Processed data is transmitted via RS-485 serial bus using standard MODBUS RTU protocol (function codes 03/04/06), enabling direct integration with PLCs, HMIs, and data loggers.
